Martha Knitz, age 93, of Luckey, OH passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday evening,
May 8, 2011 at Otterbein-Portage Valley Retirement Village, Pemberville, OH.
On October 13, 1917 she was born in Prattville, MI to John and Arvilla (Barkway) Derickson. She married
Merle Knitz on October 30, 1939 in Napoleon, OH and he preceded her in death in 1982.
Martha was a cook and waitress for various restaurants in the Luckey and Pemberville area.
Her memberships included: Zion Lutheran Church, Luckey, OH, and Troy-Webster American Legion Post #240
Women’s Auxiliary, Luckey, OH. In her spare time she volunteered with helping elderly friends run
errands and Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed playing cards and baking, especially cookies.
Martha is survived by her children: Dennis (Judy) Knitz of Toledo, OH, Marlene Blanton-Long of
Pemberville, OH, Douglas (Marcia) Knitz of Irmo, SC, Randall (Kelley) Knitz of Perrysburg, OH, Robert
Knitz of Luckey, OH, 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, sister:
Grace Newcomb of Temperance, MI and stepsister: Virginia Cordy of Oak Harbor, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Merle, brothers: Robert, Ralph Derickson and Victor
Kelly, stepsisters: Maxine, Pauline and Juanita.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marsh
Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Luckey, OH, where a Troy-Webster American Legion Post #240 Women’s
Auxiliary Service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 13, 2011
at 11 a.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Luckey, OH where there will be additional visitation from 10 AM
until time of services. Interment will be in Troy Township Cemetery, Luckey, OH. Officiating will be
Rev. Jeanne English. There will be a bereavement luncheon served at the church immediately following the
cemetery committal services.
