Recknagel, Boff advance to state wrestling meet (02-28-11)

Rossford’s D.J. Recknagel and Perrysburg’s Luke Boff both advanced to the state wrestling tournament from
their respective district tournaments over the weekend.
Recknagel won the 189-pound title at the Division II district at Marion Harding.
Boff took fourth place at the Division I district at Lorain to advance.
The top four finishers in each weight class advanced to the state tournament this weekend in Columbus.

DIVISION I
At Lorain, Perrysburg finished ninth with 48 points and Bowling Green tied for 36th with one point.
St. Edwards won the team title with 265.5 points.
Boff went 3-2 in his matches, pinning Lorain’s John Findley in 3:18 in the first round and Sandusky’s
Phil Henderson in 3:02 in the second round.
Boff lost 8-2 to Brecksville’s Marshal Willet in the semfinals.
Boff then pinned Copley’s Isaiah Wheeler in 4:36.
Boff lost a 3-2 decision to Mike Kohlhofer from Springfield to finish fourth
No other wrestlers from the county advanced.
DIVISION II
At Marion Harding, Rossford was 19th with 26 points and Eastwood was 28th with 8.5 points.
Oak Harbor won the team title with 159.5 points.
Recknagel (189) was the only county wrestler to advance to the state meet, winning all four of his
matches for the district title. It’s the second straight season Recknagel has qualified for the state
tournament.
Recknagel, now 39-1 overall, won his first two matches via pins, over Mansfield Madison’s Chris Rambo in
5:29 and then Wapakoneta’s Austin Beard in 56 seconds.
In the semifinals Recknagel defeated Norwalk’s Jake Alexander, 3-1; and then defeated Lexington’s Josh
Lehner, 6-5 in the championship.
No other wrestlers from the county advanced.
