Richard J. Rideout

Richard J. Rideout, 90, of Oregon, formerly of Curtice, Ohio, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011.

He was born in Walbridge, Ohio, on January 27, 1921, to Harry J. and Rose C. Rideout.
He married Edna J. Koester on April 24, 1945, in Toledo, while en route to the west coast for deployment
to the China, Burma, India (CBI) theater of World War II. While in the CBI, Richard drove the Burma
Road, delivering supplies to China.
After discharge from the Army, Richard and Edna bought their first farm in Curtice, where they lived for
over 50 years.
Besides being the first in the area to shell corn in the field and to dry it on site, Richard was also
active in many civic activities in the community.
He served as president of St. John Lutheran Church Council in Williston, president of the Allen Central
School PTA, master of Lake Grange, past commander of VFW Post #7510, and he served as a trustee for
Allen Township.
Richard and Edna were also known for hosting annual barn dances.
Richard is survived by his wife, Edna, of 65 years, his daughter, Sharon (Craig) Traver of Bowling Green,
son, Kenneth (Annamarie) Rideout, of Howell, MI; grandchildren, Jodi Traver, of Cincinnati, Jaci Traver
of Bratenahl, Spencer and Julia Schoolcraft, of Howell, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Stanley.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home
& Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa. The funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Thursday,
February 17, 2011, in the funeral home with burial to follow in Allen Township Cemetery, Williston,
Ohio.
