Team Anderson wins tournament

Team Anderson was the winner of the Varsity Lanes Team Baker tournament held Friday at the South Main
Street center. The team shared the $300 first-place prize money.
The champions defeated Team Smith in the finals of the stepladder finals, 2-0 in the best of three Baker
format, 247-155 and 228-183.
Team Anderson was led in the qualifying round by Ryan Taber with games of 279 and 226 for a 505 2-game
total. JoJo Ramsey added 241 and 257 for 498. The lowest game by the 5-man team was 205. Tyler Gilbert
added a 245; Brian Anderson, 235 and Chris DeLuca, 213.
Team Smith, which shared in the $200 second place prize advanced to the title match downing Team Brossia,
2-1 in the semifinals, 236-185, 195-199 and 226-199. Third place was worth $100.
Anderson was the top qualifier with a 3,528 total including five Baker games; Smith qualified at 3,388;
While Brossia qualified at 3,244.
Dan Hines and Mic Long led the Smith team. Long had a 256 for 458; while Hines rolled games of 223 and
235 for his 458.
Brossia was led by Daniel Smith with 226, 417.

Youth of the Week: Youth bowlers who bowled the most pins over their average last week, with pins over,
were as follows.

Surviving the game: The three bowlers eliminated in Al-Mar’s "Surviving the Game" for Week 14
with pins under average were: Jeff Deutschman, 77, Joe Kirkman, 70 and Bill Wammes, 63, all in the
American League. Three of the four eliminated in Week 15 were also from the American League. Those were
Sid Sink, 103; Nate Henschen, 67; and "RePete" Kolasinski Jr., 58. The other elimination was
Cyndee Boyd, Ladies Major League, 76.
In the pros: Mika Koivuniemi earned the richest payday in Professional Bowlers Association history on
Saturday as he won $250,000 for his championship in the PBA Tournament of Champions.
Not only did he dominate his final two opponents (21-of-24 possible strikes), in the semifinal match he
came within one pin of becoming the first bowler to roll two 300 games on television.
In the "all-Michigan" finals, the Finnish native of Hartland, Mich., topped Tom Smallwood of
Saginaw, Mich. 269-207. Koivuniemi topped Tom Daugherty, Wesley Chapel, Fla., 299-100, as two records
were set, lowest game and largest margin of victory in television history. Andres Gomez lost to the
champion 224-220 in the first match of the day.
