Falcons’ Pontius silences crowd at Miami (02-22-11)

The home crowd always tries to throw the opposing players off their game, no matter the sport.
Sometimes the chanting and antics can be imaginative and other times it can be derogatory and disgusting.

The best answer for the opposing player is to make something positive happen.
That was the case Saturday afternoon during Bowling Green’s 73-61 win at Miami on Saturday when the
Falcons’ Tracy Pontius was able to quiet the Miami crowd, which was basically calm in its antics, two
different times.
Once, after they were chanting ‘air ball’ after a Pontius miss, she went into the lane and hit a short
jumper.
Later with the crowd commenting on her hair, she calmly hit two free throws.
"I love that stuff," Pontius said. "It doesn’t bother me at all, and I love to prove them
wrong."
Pontius ended up proving them wrong with 29 points as she now has played well the last two games after a
stretch of poor efforts due to knee and hamstring problems.
She was named Mid-American Conference East co-player of the week Monday as she helped lead the Falcons to
wins over Miami and Ohio last week.
Pontius and her teammates, 22-4 overall and first in the MAC East at 10-3, play at Akron tonight at 7
p.m.
SCOUTING AKRON: The Zips are 13-12 overall and tied for third in the MAC East at 6-7, having won four
