Bowling Green’s goaltending is a two-horse race again.
Sophomore Andrew Hammond and Nick Eno have played well the last two weekends after Hammond had started
five straight games.
BG hasn’t decided on a starter for its games tonight and Saturday at Michigan State.
"Our goaltending looks solid. I’m excited about the way it looks," BG coach Chris Bergeron
said.
Hammond has a 1.76 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage in his last five starts. Eno has
played well in losses at Notre Dame and to Northern Michigan, but had no chance to stop any of the
goals.
"Nick’s focus has been good and he’s been good in practice," Bergeron said. "He’s been
competing for pucks in practice which is what we wanted more of."
Hammond has a 2.65 goals-against and a .912 save percentage in 20 games this season, while Eno has a 3.19
goals-against and a .883 save percentage.
COMLEY: This weekend marks the final regular-season games for MSU coach Rick Comley, who is retiring at
the end of the season.
He’s 781-613-10 in 38 seasons overall, including a 180-136-37 in nine seasons at MSU. He also coached at
Lake Superior and Northern Michigan, winning NCAA titles at NMU in 1991 and MSU in 2007.
"His impact at all three of those schools has been great, on and off the ice, and in all three of
those communities. He’ll be missed," Bergeron said. " I’ve got the utmost respect for coach
Comley.
"He’s been a pretty special guy for college hockey. He always kept the big picture of college hockey
in mind, not necessarily just the school he’s coaching for."
MSU: The Spartans are 10th in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association with records of 13-17-4 and
9-15-2-0 in the league. They can finish no higher than ninth.
They’re sixth in the league in scoring (2.62 goals per game) and power-play conversions (16.9 percent,
26-of-154), ninth in goals allowed (2.91 gpg) and 10th in penalty-killing (7.8 percent, 108-of-137).
LEADERS: Sophomore forward Derek Grant leads MSU with 31 points on seven goals and 24 assists, while
junior forward Brett Perlini has 16 goals and 11 assists, and sophomore defenseman Troy Krug has 11
goals and 15 assists.
Junior Drew Palmisano and freshman Will Yanakeff have split time in goal, posting a 2.87 goals-against
average and a .907 save percentage.
