BGSU concerto winners perform with Philharmonia
The four winners from the 2010 Competitions in Music Performance at Bowling Green State University’s
College of Musical Arts will be soloists with the Bowling Green Philharmonia, directed by Emily Freeman
Brown, at 3 p.m. Sunday in Kobacker Hall of Moore Musical Arts Center.
Undergraduate division winner Xuan He, a senior piano performance major from China, will perform
"Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 3" by Serge Prokofiev conducted by Katherine Kilburn. He
is a student of Dr. Robert Satterlee.
Undergraduate division winner Xiao Han, a saxophone performance major from China, will perform
"Concerto for Saxophone and Strings" by Pierre Max Dubois, conducted by Conrad Chu.. He
studies with Dr. John Sampen.
Graduate division winner Sheldon Johnson, saxophone performance graduate student from southwest Virginia,
will perform "Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra" by Lars-Erik Larsson, conducted by Kyle
Hanson
Graduate division winner Tatiana Gorbunova, a piano performance major, from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, will
perform "Concerto for Piano in A minor, Opus 54" by Robert Schumann, conducted by Brown.
Advance tickets for the event are $10 and $7 for students and senior citizens and on the day of the

Luke James returns to Clazel
Local singer-songwriter and former "American Idol" contestant Luke James will perform Saturday
at the Clazel Theater, 127 N. Main St.
Special guest will be country singer Katie Monroe, of Perrysburg.
Last year James sang his way to the Hollywood round of the hit Fox talent show. He will have a new demo
recording available for sale at the show.
Tickets are $5. Doors open at 7 p.m..
Landau comedy headliner
Dave Landau will headline Comedy Night Tuesday at 9 p.m. at Grumpy Dave’s, 104 S. Main St., Bowling
Green.
Landau has performed on NBC’s "Last Comic Standing," Comedy Central’s "Live at
Gotham", The Bob and Tom Show and MTV.
Jeremy Greenberg is the opening act.
Tickets are $5 and $3 for students.
Playshop stages ‘Willy Wonka’
WATERVILLE – Waterville Playshop will present the musical "Willy Wonka," Feb. 11 and 12 at 8
p.m. and Feb. 13 at 2:30 p.m. at the Maumee Indoor Theater.
Amelia Lefevre directs a talented cast of 40 children and adults based on Roald Dahl’s classic story of
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and the 1971 movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate
Factory." The score by Leslie Briscusse and Anthony Newley that includes "The Candy Man,"
"Ooompa Loompa," "Think Positive" and "Pure Imagination. "

Owens screens ‘Persepolis’
Owens Community College will show the film "Persepolis" at both the Findlay and Perrysburg
Township campuses.
The showing in conjunction with the college-wide read initiative focused on "Persepolis," the
book the film is based on. Both explores life in Iran during the Islamic Revolution of the 1970s through
the eyes of a young woman.
The film will be shown in Findlay Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Community Education and Wellness Center Room
111 and in Perrysburg Township Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in College Hall Room 100. Each screening will be
followed by a brief discussion of the film and the memoir about to growing up in Iran during the Islamic
Revolution. Admission to the events is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
Quebecois band at Terra
FREMONT – The Quebecois music group Mauvais Sort will perform at Terra Community College Monday, at 7
p.m. in the Student Activities Center.
Mauvais Sort, whose name translates from French to mean "to put a spell on someone," mixes
traditional melodies, stories and legends with contemporary sounds and lyrics, drawing both on
traditional French-Canadian and broader world music.
Hailing from St.-Eugène, Québec, Mauvais Sort has even invented a word for their own music – folk’n’roll.
"Folk" is for the inspiration, the foot stomping, the squeeze box (accordion), the fiddle and
the guitar; "roll" for the arrangements, the bass, the drum, the percussion and the energy.

Mauvais Sort will present an interactive performance at Terra. Other activities will include displays on
French Canadian music and culture. Throughout the week, Mauvais Sort will be presenting workshops and
educational events at area high schools concluding with a concert at the Sandusky State Theatre on Feb.
