Winning ensembles to play recital at Way Library
PERRYSBURG – The first place graduate level winners of the fifth annual Bowling Green State University
Chamber Music Competition will present a concert at Way Public Library Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Ying Quartet, first place winners in the graduate division, is comprised of saxophonists John
Cummins, Drew Sevel, Pin-hua Chen, and Elissa Kana. They will perform "Allegro de Concert" by
Caryl Florio and "Shift Shaf" by Claudio Gabriele.
The Color Field Ensemble, second place winners in the competition, is comprised of soprano Amanda DeBoer,
pianist Karl Larson, and clarinetist Spencer Prewitt. They will perform a setting of three poems of Ted
Kooser and Franz Schubert’s "Hirt auf dem Felsen."
Support for this concert comes from the Karen Morley Khan Music Fund of the Way Public Library Foundation
and hosted by Pro Musica, the musical support group at BGSU.
One Spirit Gospel lead act at Grand Rapids festival
GRAND RAPIDS – The Grand Rapids Arts Council will hold its Gospel Fest on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Nazareth
Hall.
The headline group will be One Spirit Gospel Quartet, a local men’s quartet. Formed in 2005, the quartet
features Tim Tiderman, Mark Sarkan, Denver Geitgey, and Marv MtCastle on vocals with organ, keyboard,
guitar, and drums
Opening the program will be local performers Lynne Long, Teresa Marie, Rebecca Montgomery, Jon Renkel,
and Julie Staiger.
Heidelberg Festival features compositions by Lillios
TIFFIN ­ – Music by Elainie Lillios, of the Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts,
will be featured during Heidelberg University’s New Music Festival Friday and Saturday.
Lillios and Oberlin professor Tom Lopez are the visiting composers for the festival.
Lillios’ "Arturo" will be performed at a concert Friday at 7 p.m. and her "Dreams in the
Desert" and "The Long Way Home" will be featured in a concert Saturday at 8 p.m.
She will give a pre-concert talk Saturday at 7 p.m. with Lopez.
Another concert will be presented at 3 p.m. On the program will be Heidelberg violin professor Ioana
Galu’s "Angst." Galu received a master’s degree from BGSU.

Jazz pianist Tad Weed at UT
TOLEDO -Jazz pianist Tad Weed will perform the annual Tatum Scholarship Concert Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the
University of Toledo Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.
Tickets are $15 and $5 for students and seniors.

Masterworks Chorale to perform in cathedral
TOLEDO – Masterworks Chorale will perform a Cathedral Classics concert Saturday at 8 p.m. at Rosary
Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd.
The chorale under the direction of Donna Tozer-Wipfli will perform music written for sacred spaces by
Bach, Palestrina, Victoria, Brahms, and Bernstein

Film screening benefits Global Education efforts
MAUMEE – The Hindi film "Patiala House" will be shown Friday at 7 p.m. at Maumee Theaters, 601
Conant St.
Written and directed by Nikhil Advani and starring Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma, the film is the story
of a young Sikh man living with family in England is inspired by a love interest to pursue his dream of
playing British cricket, defying a father who battles anti-Indian prejudice by keeping his family
traditional.
Tickets are $10 and $8 for students. Children are free. The movie is a benefit for the Global Education
Campaign.
