BG boys and girls win NLL bowling titles

ROSSFORD — Both the Bowling Green girls and boys bowling teams dominated the competition Saturday to
claim the championships in the Northern Lakes League at Interstate Lanes in Rossford.
With the respective tournament wins, each team earned 24 points added to the two points awarded for each
match won during the regular season. Both teams had the best record in their respective divisions, so
the points truly did not matter as they captured the championship.
On Saturday, the boys team dominated with the top four individual series and the top Baker game total to
handily win with a 3,894 total. Rossford, which shared a pair of lanes with Bowling Green, was second at
3,558.
Juan Ybanes led the Bobcats and the tournament with games of 215 and 204 in his 613 series. Cameron
Walter bowled a 214 and 589. Jon Saddler had games of 209 and 206 in his 588 series. Ryan Chesser
contributed 204 and 577 to the effort.
The Bobcats had team games of 941, 937 and 962 and had a 178-pin advantage over their nearest
challengers, the Bulldogs, going into the Baker games. In the Bakers,BG bowled 181, 198, 223, 206 and
246 for 1,054 to take the title.
Cory Zalesak led Rossford with a 218 game and 569 series. Austin Reynolds rolled a 214 and 534, with Tony
McCoy having a 207 high game.
Perrysburg finished fourth in the event at 3,235 behind Maumee’s 3,246. Steve Cassity led the Yellow
Jackets with a 231 game and 550 series.
Springfield finished fifth at 3,221; while Anthony Wayne was sixth at 3,201.
After going undefeated during the season, the Bobcat girls totaled 3,246 and led second-place Anthony
Wayne by more than 670 pins. The Generals had 2,572. Springfield finished third at 2,473.
The Bobcats were led by Kelsey Parker with a 207 game and 531 series. Denise Miller added games of 183
and 182 in her 504 series. Eclipse Stockwell had a 181 and 491.
The Bobcat Baker games were 154, 184, 135, 125 and 173 for 771.
First, second and third team honors for individuals will be compiled and announced later. The format for
selection adds the season individual averages to their tournament series, with the top five recognized
as first team, etc.
Most of the teams will be competing this coming weekend in the sectional tournaments at River City
Bowl-A-Way in Napoleon. The girls will bowl Friday and the boys compete on Saturday. The top six teams
advance to the district event at Interstate Lanes on Feb. 25-26.
The only other Wood County teams from Eastwood will compete at Port Clinton for the sectional to also
advance to the Rossford site for district.
