George W. Simon

George W. Simon, 90, of Perrysburg, OH died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in
Perrysburg.
He was born in Perrysburg on October 5, 1920 to George A. and Leona B. (Haas) Simon. In 1943 he was first
married to Velma O. Raker, who preceded him in death in 1983, and later married Marilyn J. Emmett
Brinker in 1985.
George was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Berlin during WWII and was a lifetime farmer in the Perrysburg
area. For many years he also owned and operated a washer and dryer repair service.
He was a very active member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg, serving on many committees over
the years. He was also a member of the American Legion Perrysburg Post #28.
George managed the Perrysburg Merchant Baseball Team for a number of years, winning the state finals and
many league titles.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; stepdaughter, Karen (Rob) Wilson; stepson, Michael (Pat) Brinker;
five stepgrandchildren and seven great-stepgrandchildren; brother, Vincent (Dorothy "Dot")
Simon and sister, Catherine "Katie" Schramm, both of Perrysburg; many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by both parents, brother, Cyril "Skee" Simon; sisters, Genevieve
"Jenny" Guhl, Margaret Simon, Helen Spratt and Mary Robertson.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. S. Boundary
St., Perrysburg, OH, (419-874-3133) where scripture services will be held at 7 p.m. Prayers will be
recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011, followed by Mass of Christian
Burial at 10:15 a.m. in St. Rose Church with burial in St. Rose Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to St. Rose Church, St. Rose Cemetery or to a charity
of the donor’s choice.
