Fiber show entries sought
PERRYSBURG – The Perrysburg Area Arts Council is accepting entries for its annual Fiber Art Show, to be
held June 4th and 5th at The 577 Foundation.
The exhibit will showcase innovative uses of fiber media including art quilts, needle arts, wearable art,
experimental fiber and weaving. There is a $15 entry fee for up to 3 entries to the juried show. The

Polarpalooza extends deadline
The application deadline to participate in Polarpalooza Alternative Fashion Show Arts in Common Gallery
on Feb. 19 has been extended.
The creators of frosty fashions now have until Feb. 12 to apply.
The show features whimsical costumes and characters related to the winter season.

BGSU graduate Lupu presents violin concert
FREMONT – Violinist Virgil Lupu and special guests will perform Sunday at 4 p.m. at Hayes Memorial United
Methodist Church.
Born into a family of musicians in Romania, Lupu began his musical training at age five and started
playing the violin two years later. He appeared in numerous recitals throughout Transylvania and he
frequently toured Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Romania, Cyprus and the United States with several
orchestras and ensembles.
Lupu came to the United States to study violin at Bowling Green State University, graduating with honors
with a bachelor degree in violin performance in 2004 and earned a master’s degree at the Cincinnati
College Conservatory of Music in 2005.
Lupu is an active orchestra player and chamber musician and faculty member and artist in residence at
Terra.
Glassblowing BGSU grad performs at Toledo Museum
TOLEDO – Darren Goodman, a 2004 BFA grad from Bowling Green State University, will give a performance
demonstration at the Toledo Museum of Art’s Glass Pavilion Friday from 7 to 10 p.m.
In 2004, just a year after earning his BFA, he started his own glass studio. In 2009, Ferrari
commissioned him to create trophies for winning drivers in Ferrari Challenge races.
Music of African-Americans showcased at cathedral
TOLEDO – "A Journey Through the Life of African Americans," will be presented by soprano
Margaret Barron on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd. Admission is free. A
freewill offering will be accepted.
The program will feature music by African-American composers Adolphus Hailstork and Margaret Bonds,
arrangements of traditional spirituals as well as "Condomble" by Croatian composer Bruno
Bjlinsky. Pianist Timothy Cheek will assist.
A resident of Toledo, Margaret Barron’s distinguished career has included study, performance and teaching
throughout Europe, particularly Eastern Europe.
In 2005 she was invited to celebrate the fifteen year anniversary of the Sister City Relationship between
Toledo and Szeged, Hungary where she presented seminars to elementary and high school students that
explored the history and significance of African American music, jazz and blues influences.
Morrison tribute aids YWCA
MAUMEE – The Maxx Band and Phil Barone as Jim Morrison will present "A Tribute to Jim Morrison"
Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Maumee Indoor Theatre, 601 Conant Street.

Symphony plays waltzes
FINDLAY – The Toledo Symphony Orchestra will present "Evening of Waltz" Friday at 8 p.m. in
Winebrenner Theological Seminary
The orchestra conducted by Jeffrey Pollock will perform "Overture to Die Fledermaus" by Johann
Strauss II, "Symphony No. 6" by Dmitri Shostakovich, "Suite from Der Rosenkavalier"
by Richard Strauss and "La Valse" by Maurice Ravel.
Part of the University of Findlay’s Concert and Lecture Series tickets are $25, $20 for senior citizens
