Owens women advance
to regional final
PIQUA — Owens Community College’s women’s basketball team was a 79-66 winner over Sinclair CC Friday in
the semifinals of the Region XII, District I tournament.
The Express, ranked 11th nationally and 27-4 overall, face Cincinnati State this afternoon at 1 in the
championship game. The winner advances to the NJCAA Division II tournament March 15-19 in Peoria, Ill.
Owens’ 27 wins are tied for the third-most in school history. Sinclair finished 17-9.
Owens’ Jasmine Blanton finished with a game-high 21 points, while adding three rebounds, two assists and
three steals. Teammate Karrah Windau had a career-high 20 points, while adding five rebounds, six
assists and four steals.
Blanton has 938 career points, which puts her in sole possession of third place on the career scoring
list. She only trails Leslie Mugg with 942 and Amy Amstutz with 1,198.
Owens’ Aja Hall added 14 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Brittany Morris had 13
points, nine rebounds and three assists. Saige Meyer had 11 rebounds for Owens.
Falcons’ Martin honored
CLEVELAND — Bowling Green redshirt junior outfielder/relief pitcher Patrck Martin is the Mid-American
Conference male scholar-athlete of the week.
Martin hit .400 and pitched one scoreless inning in BG’s series at Murray State last weekend. He has a
3.80 grade-point average in adolescent young-adult education.
BG women’s golf next-to-last
RIO VERDE, Ariz. — Bowling Green’s women’s golf team is next-to-last after Friday’s first round of the
17-team Rio Verde Invitational. The Falcons shot a 337 total.
BG’s scores were: Bailey Arnold, Marisa Glew, 83; Amy Ruthenberg, 84; and Paula DiFrancesco, 87.
Falcon gymnasts finish last
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bowling Green’s gymnasts finished last in a three-team meet Friday. Host Kentucky won
with a 195.650 score, followed by George Washington at 194.100 and BG at 193.800.
Danielle Wishart led BG, tying for first on the vault and finishing second in the floor exercise, both
with a 9.850 score.
BG to host swimming championships
The Bowling Green Swim Club is hosting the Ohio Swimming Junior Olympics Championship on March 11-13 at
the BGSU Student Recreation Center.
This state championship will bring 800 Ohio swimmers (ages 9-14) and their families and coaches to
Bowling Green.
The three-day event will begin competition each morning at 9 a.m. with preliminaries. Finals will begin
at 5 p.m. each day.
Admissions is free.
