Margaret Edith Schroeder, age 103, of Bowling Green, OH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 19,
2011surrounded by her family at Heritage Corner Health Care Campus, Bowling Green, OH.
On September 17, 1907 she was born to Charles and Ida (Thompson) Forrester in Bowling Green, OH. She
married Carrol Philo on June 3, 1932 and he preceded her in death on April 26, 1942. She then married
Elmer Schroeder on July 27, 1960, and he preceded her in death on September 5, 1990.
Margaret was the oldest living graduate of BGHS and BGSU at the time of her death and was honored as a
Martha Holden Jennings Scholar.
She began her teaching career in Portage and Walbridge and taught many years at Webster Elementary
School-Eastwood School District, retiring in 1976.
Her memberships included: life long member of Webster United Methodist Church, attended St. John’s
Lutheran Church, Stony Ridge, OH, Pemberville United Methodist Church, Pemberville, OH, Mid-Wood County
Farm Bureau Council, Ohio Farm Bureau and past board member and secretary of Wood County Farm Bureau.
In her spare time she was a score keeper for Webster School basketball games and was an avid quilter.
Surviving Margaret is her son: Forrest "Red" Philo of Pemberville, OH, granddaughters: Vicky
(Jan) Sorgenfrei of Findlay, OH, Pamela (Michael) Metzger of Weston, OH, grandson: Kevin (Connie) Philo
of Dayton, OH, great-grandchildren: Nicole Philo, Mitchel Bailey, Shawn Bailey, Travis Philo, Tyler
Philo, Troy Philo, stepgreat-grandchildren: Crista, Michelle, stepgreat-great-granddaughter: Miira, and
sister: Annie Kent of Toledo, OH.
She was preceded in death by parents, husbands: Carrol Philo and Elmer Schroeder, stepdaughter: JoAnn
Miles, daughter-in-law: Patricia Philo, brother: Robert Forrester and sister: Ardah Nixon.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the
Marsh Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, OH, where funeral services will be conducted on
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Peter Johnston. Interment will be in
Webster Township Cemetery, Scotch Ridge, OH. There will be a bereavement luncheon served at the Webster
Township Hall immediately following the cemetery committal services.
