Portage Twp. new mtg. date
The Portage Township trustees will meet on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the township hall, corner of Huffman
and Mermill roads.
The meeting for Feb. 21 has been cancelled.
CJFD offers smoke detectors
The Central Joint Fire District has a small number of smoke detectors available for residents of the
district. Residents may stop by the station on any Tuesday night at 7 to receive one. Proof of residence
will be necessary. Another pick-up time is the first Saturday of the month during siren testing at 10
a.m. at the station.
There is a limit of one alarm per household.
The station is located at 13179Mermill Road. If you have any questions, call the station and leave a

Monday is first book club mtg.
Monday Mysteries Book Club will hold its first meeting of 2011 at a special time, 1 p.m. on Monday, at
the Wood County District Public Library, 251 N. Main St., Bowling Green.
The group will discuss "Dating Dead Men," by Harley Jane Kozak. Readers who enjoy their
mysteries with a touch of "screwball comedy," a la Janet Evanovich, will find much to like in
Kozak’s debut novel. Readers are invited to bring a brown bag lunch; cookies and coffee will be served.

The book discussion is free and open to all.
BG logs 500 hours overtime clearing snow
Snow storms last week resulted in more than 500 hours of overtime in Bowling Green.
Director of Public Works Brian Craft said the snow removal effort would not have been as successful
without the help of employees from the water, sewer and electric divisions and the equipment provided by
those divisions.
Craft said the city has ordered 400 more tons of salt and can ordered an additional 800 tons, if needed.

Two injured in accident
Two people were taken to an area hospital Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 6 at
Sand Ridge Road, southwest of Bowling Green.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, at 1:44 p.m. Kristen Amos, Grand Rapids, driving a 1998
Buick four-door, was northbound on Sand Ridge Road and, after stopping at the posted stop sign at Route
6, entered the roadway and was struck by Willie Pack Jr., Paulding, driving a 2005 Chevrolet four-door
westbound. Amos reportedly did not see Pack’s vehicle.
Amos sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was taken to Wood County Hospital by Mid-County ambulance.
Her infant passenger, Brayden Amos, also was taken to the hospital with possible injuries.
Amos was cited with right of way at a stop sign.
