Eastwood, BG bowlers do well in tourneys
Bowling Green’s boys bowling team took second place in a statewide tournament Saturday in Columbus,while
Eastwood’s bowlers swept all four division titles in the Sandusky Bay Area Bowling Conference tournament
held in Sandusky on Saturday.
Some of the best teams across the state competed in the 32-team field in Columbus.
It was the first time any school has won all four SBABC divisions, sweeping the varsity and junior
varsity events for both the boys and girls divisions. There are 11 teams in the conference.
BOYS BOWLING
BG second in tourney
Bowling Green finished second in the Ohio State Buckeye Classic tournament at HP Lanes in Columbus. In
the championship match, Kettering Fairmont downed the Bobcats 425-296. BG knocked off top seed Troy in
the semifinals, 461-363. BG had Baker games of 215 and 246. Fairmont topped Westerville Central in the
other semifinal, 380-361.
The Bobcats qualified fourth at 3,856. Only the top four teams advanced to the bracket round. BG had team
games of 880, 965 and 942, to go with Baker series of 525 and 540.
Juan Ybanes led the team with games of 234 and 226 in his 649 series. He was named to the all-tournament
team. Nick Jenne rolled a consistent series for the Bobcats of 187, followed by a pair of 186 games for
559.
Eastwood wins tournament
At Sandusky in the SBABC tournament, Eastwood’s boys won with a total of 3,747. The Eagles shot team
games of 871, 966 and 942 and a 5-game Baker total of 968. The team was led by Jared Haas with games of
204, 221 and 201 for a 626 total, while Tommy Blanchard added a 596, with high games of 204 and 200.
Both were named to the all-tournament team.
In a conference match the Eagles had games of 827, 791 and 793, to remain undefeated in conference play
with a 2,067-2,918 win at Sandusky Perkins on Friday. Eastwood (6-0 conference, 7-1 overall). Blanchard
led the team with games of 216 and 269 for 485; while Kyle Waynick added 205 and 245 for 450. Haas
bowled a 235, 402.
GIRLS BOWLING
Eagles take title
Eastwood totaled 3,232 to win the conference tournament at Sandusky. The Eagles had team games of 827,
791 and 793, with a 5-game Baker total of 821. Brandi Roller and Jessica Young were both named to the
all-tournament team. Roller had high games of 194 and 193 in her 556 set; while Young added a 190 high
game for 517.
At Sandusky in a conference match Friday, the girls team remained undefeated as it easily topped Sandusky
Perkins 2,577-1,257. Roller led the Eagles (5-0 SBABC, 6-0 overall) with a fine 258 game for 445 set;
while Young rolled a 337 total.
BG finishes 10th
Bowling Green varsity girls finished 10th in the Ohio State Buckeye Classic tournament at HP Lanes in
Columbus on Saturday with 3,160 pins. There were 18 teams entered, and it took 3,561 to advance to the
final round. BG had team games of 689, 838 and 826.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Liberty Center 38, Otsego 28
Otsego’s girls were held to nine points in the first half as the Knights fell in the non-league game.
Kaitlyn Hogrefe led the Tigers, now 5-8, with 12 points.
Megan Bundy led Otsego (3-8) with eight points.

Eastwood’s boys won the SBABC tournament with a 3,008 total, led by John Fredericks with a 209 high game
in his 586. set. The girls team also won its division with a 2,413 total Libby Snyder was named to the
all-tournament team as she led the Eagles with a high game of 189 in her 530 total.

Gibsonburg beat Eastwood, 36-14. Leaders for Eastwood were: Garrett Ballard and Cody Kinor-Chapman.
