Donald ‘Red’ Wasserman

Donald W. Wasserman, 88, of Millbury, Ohio, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday,
January 16, 2011.
Don was born on February 11, 1922 to William and Marie (Maire).
During WWII he served from 1942-1946 in the U. S. Army 99th Infantry stationed in Europe and was a
participant in the Battle of the Bulge. Don was a dedicated lifelong farmer. He had also worked as an
apprentice for the ship yard and in 1950 Don went to work as a pipefitter for Hans Hansen during the
winter months until 1990. He was active at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church where he was an usher. Don also
served on many committees, including the festival committee. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus,
where he was a 3rd Degree Knight. Don was also a member of the American Legion Dunberger Post, National
Farmers Association and was Director of Lime City Insurance for 38 years.
Don is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Ted (Jan), Tim (Angie), Tom (Lisa), Bob (Kathy), Sandy
(Dale) Pertner, Paul, Shelly (Jay) Gruben; stepchildren, Jackie Adams, Jim (Jan) Lohberger, Laurie
(Larry) Perkins; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 4
step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Lenard and Leo; sisters, Rita Bose, Dorothy Dippman, Elsie Dippman,
Viola Gahler, Angela Dunn, Jane Cajka, Anna Mae Sattler and Verna Konesky.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marge; parents; sister, Luella Fairchild; step-daughter,
Linda Crusa.
Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert Pavley Funeral Home, Millbury Chapel, 1111
Woodville Road on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m., where the recitation of
the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. and American Legion services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Prayers will begin in the funeral home on Friday at 9:15 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at
10 a.m. in St. Jerome Catholic Church, 300 Warner St., Walbridge, Ohio. Following mass, interment will
take place in Lake Township Cemetery.
Those wishing an expression of sympathy in Don’s name are asked to consider St. Jerome Catholic Church or
Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
