Elmwood dominates sectional tournament (02-21-11)

Five Elmwood wrestlers won sectional titles as the Royals dominated the Division III sectional Saturday
on their home mats.
In all, the Royals qualified 11 wrestlers for next week’s Division III district tournament at Owens
Community College.
Also, Perrysburg was second in the Division I sectional at Clay with two champions.
In Division II, Rossford’s D.J. Recknagel won a sectional title. In Division III, North Baltimore’s
Dalton Ishmael and Otsego’s Todd Box were champions.
In all sectionals, the top four in each weight class advance to the district.
DIVISION I
At Clay High School, Perrysburg scored 1781â„2 points. Clay won the nine-team sectional with 267 points.

Perrysburg’s Kadin Llewellyn (152) and Micah Carter (215) both won titles by decision.
Finishing second for Perrysburg were: Ryan Roth (130); J.P. Newton (135); and Luke Boff (171).
Taking thirds for Perrysburg were: Jamie Waltermeyer (119); and Alec Herhold (125). Jake Fleming (145)
was fourth for the Yellow Jackets.
At Marion Harding, Bowling Green was fourth with 124 points, with eight wrestlers advancing to the
district. Sandusky won the eight-team sectional with 198 points.
Finishing second for BG were: Devin Spencer (152); Jared Goris (160); and Ben Bembry (189). Finishing
third for the Bobcats were: Logan Reynolds (119); Brandon Morelock (125); Doug Cope (130); Sam Postish
(135); and Sawyer Shull (171).
The Division I district is at Lorain High School.
DIVISION II
At Napoleon High School, Eastwood was fourth and Rossford eighth in the nine-team field.
Oak Harbor was the team champion with 2311â„2 points. Eastwood finished with 1101â„2 points and Rossford
scored 59 points.
Eastwood’s qualifiers were: Casey Horn (152) and Joe Nauman (215), both second; Randy Caris (140), third;
and Jacob Welch (160); and Kyle Patterson (171), both fourth.
Rossford’s Recknagel won the title at 189, with a 3-2 decision over Oak Harbor’s Sean McGee.
Also for the Bulldogs, Christian Goldsmith (119) was fourth.
The county wrestlers advance to the Marion Harding district.
DIVISION III
At Elmwood High School, the Royals finished with 2271â„2 points in the 10-team field. Lakota was fifth at
1061â„2, Otsego was sixth at 971â„2, Northwood was eighth at 75 and North Baltimore was ninth at 63.
Nick Goebel, a two-time state placer, improved to 30-4 beating Lakota’s Ben Timmons in the final to pace
the Royals.
Other Elmwood winners were: Dusty Ferguson (112); Dexter Lee (125); Mitchell Emmitt (130); and Jake Baker
(215). Emmitt has 100 career victories.
Finishing second for Elmwood were: George Andrich (103); and Joe McCartney (145).
Finishing third for Elmwood were: Michael Baer (135); Jake Wise (140); Luke Garner (171); and Trevor
Tyson (185).
In addition to Robbins, Jarett Smith (285) was second for Lakota. Stephen Klotz (215) was third for the
Raiders and Spencer Sprow (160) was fourth.
Otsego’s Box won the title at 145 with a major decision over McCartney to improve to 32-3 overall.
Also for Otsego Brady Kane (130) and Ryan Fackler (160) were third while Justin Shawberry (103) and
Jordan Hendrix (171) were fourth.
For Northwood, Nick Lang (112) and Tyler Mack (135) were second. Brandon Kretz (119) and Matt Schlicher
(125) were third for the Rangers and Dustin Bolton (152) was fourth.
North Baltimore’s Ishmael won at 189 to improve to 37-1. Morgan Findley (285) was fourth for the Tigers.

At Huron, Lake had four district qualifiers.
Carl Brown (215) was third while Casey Conine (125); Joe Barber (135); and Zach Sharpe (171) were all
fourth.
