Parks looking for scarecrows

The Wood County Park District is pleased to announce its seventh annual scarecrow contest.
One of the long-standing symbols of the fall harvest season is the scarecrow.
Originally created by farmers to scare crows and other birds out of crops, the scarecrow now represents a
feeling of warmth, coziness, security, and goodwill that often accompanies the holiday season.
Deadline to enter the contest is Oct. 13.
To obtain an entry form and contest rules, contact the Wood County Park District office, at (419)
353-1897.
It is important to follow the rules as there are some precise dimensions and other restrictions on the
construction.
Those interested may drop off or mail their entry form to Park District Headquarters, 18729 Mercer Road,
Bowling Green, OH 43402 no later than 4:30 p.m.
Scarecrows will be delivered and set up on Oct. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wood County Historical Center
on County Home Road.
Entries will be on display until Oct. 18.
Prizes will be awarded at the Halloween Folklore & Funfest on Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. at the Wood
County Historical Center.
Four monetary prizes will be awarded.
Entries will be judged on originality, design, color, creativity, and outdoor durability.
