Flutist Dick performs at BGSU
Innovative flutist Robert Dick will perform Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall of the Moore Musical
Arts Center on the Bowling Green State University campus.
As a composer, Dick has twice been awarded a Composers Fellowship, a Solo Recitalist Grant by the
National Endowment for the Arts and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
The New York Times called his work "riveting in its timbral variety and brilliant in Mr. Dick’s
playing."
Dick’s multifaceted musical life includes work on redesigning the flute itself. Brannen Brothers
Flutemakers manufactures his invention, the "Glissando Headjoint," which does for the flute
what the "whammy bar" does for the electric guitar. Dick performs on a special flute that
Brannen built for him. This flute offers myriad of new musical possibilities, and many of Dick’s recent
compositions embrace these freedoms.
His recital is part of the Music at the Forefront series sponsored by the MidAmerican Center for
Contemporary Music.
