$30,000 raised for library books

More than $30,000 was raised last week at what is being called an extremely successful fundraiser to buy
books for the Wood County District Public Library.
Library Director Elaine Paulette said that 100 percent of the net proceeds will be used to purchase books
and other library materials, including magazines and books on CDs.
Due to state budget cuts earlier in the year, the library’s board of trustees was forced in May to slash
the $100,000 materials budget by $50,000. Additional reductions in state funding of libraries as part of
the recently-adopted state budget will require the board to cut the book budget line item even more in
the near future.
Sponsors of Thursday’s fundraiser at the Schedel Arboretum and Gardens in Elmore had underwritten the
costs of the event so that all proceeds from ticket sales and a silent auction could be used to purchase
books.
All tickets for the event were sold prior to Thursday.
Many of the 100 people in attendance were also very generous in their bidding at the silent auction,
Paulette added.
The auction raised nearly $4,500.
In addition to the auction and tours of the gardens, the evening featured guitar music by David Lester
and a variety of food. The caterer was Bob Rosencrantz from Events Professionals LLC.
The library’s foundation hopes to make the fundraiser an annual event.
And the library continues to have an on-going "Buy-A-Book" Campaign. Suggested donations start
at $25 for one book and $2,500 for "a stack of books."
