Wayne Research Club
WAYNE – The club held their first meeting of the year on Sept. 9 at the Wayne Library.
The members held a surprise luncheon for Doris Salisbury, who has been an active member for over 50
years. Attending were eight active members and two associate members. Kathy Tahy, Salisbury’s daughter,
was also present, as were as honorary members Jean Hardy, Evelyn Smith and Drue Tyson. These three women
worked with Salisbury for many years.
The program centered on the 1950s. Salisbury was president in 1955-56. Janet Garner and Nancy Reynolds
shared facts about ’50s pop culture such as the duck tail haircut, hoola hoops, poodle skirts and saddle
shoes.
President Barbara Barndt had club program book from 1955-56. She named the officers and members at that
time. She also shared from the 1996-97 and 2006-08 books, when Salisbury was again president.
Barndt closed with the poem "Memories" and all sang the club song.
