Author Carman and ‘Skeleton Creek’ kicks off Community Reads 2009

Patrick Carman, the award-winning author of books for young adults and children, will be in Bowling Green
Wednesday to kick off Community Reads 2009.
His talk will begin at 7 p.m. at the Wood County District Public Library, 251 N. Main St.
While the writings of Edgar Allan Poe are the focus of this year’s Community Reads, Carman’s book,
"Skeleton Creek,"’ has been selected as a companion book for younger readers because of its
references to Poe and his works.
"Skeleton Creek" is a multimedia ghost story which introduces readers to the next generation of
storytelling. The story is broken into two parts, created by the book’s main characters: Ryan’s text in
the book, and Sarah’s videos (produced by Carman’s own PC Studios in Walla Walla, Wash.) found on a
special Web site. Access to the Web site is gained by links and passwords provided throughout the book.
"Skeleton Creek" is the first in a new series by Carman.
Carman will talk about his own writing, and Poe’s influences on his work. A question and answer session
and book signing opportunity will follow his talk.
This program is free, and everyone is invited.
Copies of "Skeleton Creek" and its sequel, "Ghost in the Machine," will be available
for purchase from the Friends of the Library.
