KITCHENER, Ontario —Alissa Czisny of Bowling Green, has won the ladies silver medal at the International
Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series event Skate Canada.
Czisny finished fourth in the free skate, but a solid short program kept her in second overall. The 2009
U.S. champion landed a triple Lutz-double toe loop combination and double Axel-double Axel sequence, as
well as a triple flip and triple toe loop. Yet, she fell on a triple Lutz and triple loop and was
downgraded on her other triple loop.
“I’m disappointed,” Czisny said. “It wasn’t my best.”
Reigning World silver medalist Joannie Rochette won her third Skate Canada title. The 2009 European
champion, Laura Lepisto of Finland, took home the bronze medal.
Rochette’s routine was dotted with flaws, including a planned triple lutz that she doubled.
“I know I can do this program much better, but it’s really challenging physically to do,” Rochette said.
“I was really happy to fight for every single element and I’ll go home and work really hard on that last
minute of the program.
“I think this will be a good one to have in the bag before the (Olympic) Games.”
This is the third Skate Canada medal-winning finish for Czisny, who won the event in 2005 and took home
bronze last season. The two-time U.S. Collegiate champion won gold at the Nebelhorn Trophy in September,
and placed fourth at the Rostelecom Cup last month.
