Todd Book of Wapakoneta earned the championship of the 18th annual Brunswick Northwest Ohio Open on
Sunday at Varsity Lanes.
Book, an exempt player on the Professional Bowlers Association national tour, earned his first PBA title
and pocketed $2,100. In the championship match, he defeated David Traber, 226-220.
Both Book and Traber, of Hebron, Ill., opened early on in the title match. However, Book put together a
string of five strikes beginning in the fifth frame, while Traber opened with a doubled and had rolled a
four-bagger starting in the seventh frame.
Traber finished the match first and could have put the pressure on Book. However, he left a 4-pin in the
10th frame which only forced Book to mark to win the title.
"I tugged it a bit," Traber said of the shot.
Needing only the mark, Book said: "I missed twice on the right lane, so I just tried to play it
straight."
Leaving only an 8-pin he easily converted the spare for the win.
"I never make it easy on myself," Book said of his battles from behind, noting his missed spare
in the second frame.
Throughout the tournament, Book had been playing an inside line. However, he moved outside in the
championship match.
Traber also admitted to having a couple of rough frames that cost him the match.
"I made a couple of bad shots," Traber said. "One lane was different than the other, so
you really had to stay on top of things."
In the fourth frame, Traber was a little light and left the 2-4-8-10 split, which he converted. He almost
left the identical split the next frame; however, the 10-pin fell.
Traber earned $1,250 for his second-place finish.
Book, a PBA member since 2006, is in his second year as an exempt player. He won the 2007 "Tour
Trials" and earned his second year of exemption through last year’s point standings.

He advanced to the title match defeating Ken Abner, Cincinnati, 189-153, while Traber topped Dave
D’Entremont of Middleburg Heights, 225-191 in the semifinals.
The quarterfinalists included the defending champion and high qualifier, Jeff Zaffino, Warren, Pa. as
well as three exempt touring players, Chris Loschetter, of Avon, Ohio; Brian Waliczek, Birch Run, Mich.;
and John Nolen, Grand Rapids, Mich., this year’s Master’s champion.
Book, who qualified fourth, credits his success at the tournament for his recent work on changing the
pitches in his bowling balls.
"I’m getting out of the ball better. The ball feels great," he said.
He was also getting a better ball reaction and freely admitted that he had "a lot of breaks"
throughout the tournament.
D’Entremont and Abner each earned $975; While Zaffino, Loschetter, Waliczek and Nolen each pocketed $775.

Some of the best games were bowled in the first round of match play Sunday as Zaffino and D’Entremont
each rolled a 300, while Waliczek came up one pin shy with a 299.
One of last year’s PBA Women’s Series champions, Jodi Woessner, opened Saturday’s qualifying round with a
279 game. The Oregon resident bowls summers at the host center and she finished in 24th place, earning
$400 for the last cash spot. She totaled 1,689 for the eight games.
Other area bowlers included Kevin Krieger, Bowling Green, 43rd, 1,563; former BG resident, Mitch Bakies
of Lone Tree, Colo, 52nd, 1,483; Tony Romaker, Bowling Green, 65th, 1,362; and BG league bowler, Joey
Roark, Carey, 67th, 1,353.
Former BG resident, Joe Kominek of Monclova was forced to withdraw Saturday due to an injury.
