Waldo Schauweker

Waldo A. Schauweker, 91, of Perrysburg, passed away October 30, 2009 at the Hospice of NW Ohio,
Perrysburg.
He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on October 14, 1918 to Howard and Cecil (Allion) Schauweker.
He was a graduate of Bowling Green High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts from
Bowling Green State University and worked toward his Masters Degree in Engineering at Penn State
University where he taught Air Force ROTC for 3 years. Waldo was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Waldo volunteered for the Army Air Corps in 1941. He graduated from flying school and received a pilot’s
rating and commission in April 1942. After completion of 48 combat missions and 21 months as a B17 pilot
in New Guinea, he was the personal pilot for the Commanding General of the Fifth Air Force.
He received the Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal and the 5th Air Force Distinguished Unit Badge.
Waldo was recalled to active military service during the Korean War and retired from the USAF at the
rank of Lt. Colonel.
Upon returning to civilian life, Waldo was employed by Libbey Owens Ford, H.H. Buggie Co., Gendron Wheel
Co., Continental Aviation, Permaglass, Inc. and Rimer Precision Casting and later became a
manufacturer’s sales representative for various companies in NW Ohio.
He married Mary Kathryn Kazmaier of Perrysburg on July 22, 1944 at Zoar Lutheran Church.
Following his retirement, Waldo and Mary K. traveled extensively throughout the world and enjoyed
wintering in the southern part of Florida for almost 35 years. Together they enjoyed being members of
the Toledo Club, Lamplighter Dance Club and were supporters of the Toledo Repertoire Theatre.
Waldo was a member of Zoar Lutheran Church, the Perrysburg Exchange Club, Maumee Elks and the Perrysburg
American Legion.
Waldo is survived by his children, Susan I. (David) Bennett of Perrysburg, Sally K. (Boyd) Frazier of
Perrysburg, and Stephen A. (Lois) Schauweker of Highland Village, Texas; grandchildren, Kristine (Joe)
Smith, Molly Noble, Tripp (Amy) Barrie, MD, Rachel and Adam Schauweker; six great-grandchildren, Carly
and Annie Smith, Jack Noble, Emily and Michael Barrie and Taylor Simons. He is also survived by his
sister-in-law Teresa Schauweker of Bowling Green and his nephews, Keith, David and Dennis Schauweker. He
was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary K. and brother Kenneth Schauweker.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Zoar Lutheran Church, 314 E. Indiana Ave.,
Perrysburg, Ohio with Pastor Timothy P. Philabaum, officiating where the family will receive friends
starting an hour prior to the service. Waldo will be buried, with military honors at Fort Meigs
Cemetery.

Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 or Zoar Lutheran Church.
Waldo received exceptional and compassionate care by his Hospice Team and his private care
"angels" in the last four years thus making it possible for Waldo to remain in his home until
