Dixieland band plays Rhythm on the River
GRAND RAPIDS — The Glass City Dixieland Band will perform a Rhythm on the River Arts Series Sunday at 4
p.m. in the Wright Pavilion located on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of
Lincoln Street behind LaRoe’s Restaurant.
Glass City started playing together around 1970 under the leadership of Bill Genson and Martin Braun. 
The group normally includes a front line of clarinet, trombone and cornet, and a rhythm section of
piano, banjo, bass and drums.  
Over the years, musicians from a wide range of backgrounds have contributed to this band which plays for
clubs, weddings, anniversaries, parties, art shows and festivals, including the Applebutter Festival in
Grand Rapids.  
Performing in August are George Leist, drums; Bill Parthe, piano; Kyle Snyder, tuba; Phil Cartwright,
banjo; Ted Witt, clarinet; Fredrick Slide, trombone; and Bill Genson, cornet, who have played
collectively for a total of 365 years.  
The Rhythm programs are sponsored by the Grand Rapids Historical Society.
Art Tatum Jazz Society hosting jazz brunch
TOLEDO – The Art Tatum Jazz Society is hosting a jazz brunch Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Toledo
Museum of Art’s Glass Pavilion.
The show features trumpeter Ben Wolkins, trombonist Doug Neel, pianist Kyle Turner and drummer Nelson
Overton II.

Hepcat Revival swings on Maumee church lawn
MAUMEE — Hepcat Revival will perform a free concert Wednesday, at 6 p.m. on the front lawn of First
Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 E. Broadway St.
Hepcat Revival is a seven-piece jump blues band that emulates the sounds and looks of Louis Prima, Big
Joe Turner, Cab Calloway, and Louis Jordan.
In the event of bad weather, the party will be moved inside.

Cathedral Concert Series announces schedule
TOLEDO — The Cathedral Concert Series has announced its 2015-16 season. The series brings some of the
finest regional musicians to the Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd.
All concerts are free except the Toledo Symphony.
Scheduled are:
•    Jeff Dwarshuis, classical guitar, “Music of Fenando Sor,” Sept. 20 at 3 p.m.
•    Denise Ritter Bernardini, soprano, and Donald Bernardini, tenor, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.
•    Marijim Thoene, organist, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m.
•    Christmas Carol Sing, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m.
•    Bowling Green State University Trumpet Ensemble, conducted by Charles Saenz, April 10 at 3 p.m.
•    Tenebrae with Cathedral Choir, directed by Paul Monachino,  March 23 at 7:30 p.m.
•    Mozart’s Requiem with Toledo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stephan Sanderling, April 28 at 7 p.m.
