Hollywood Casino marks holiday with comedy & rock
The Hollywood Casino, on the banks of the Maumee just over the Rossford city line, will kick off its
outdoor concert series on Independence Day weekend with two shows in the outdoor venue.
On Saturday the Hollywood Comedy Jam with Mike Epps will perform from 8 to 10 p.m.
The show also features Earthquake, Tony Roberts and Tommy Davidson.
Tickets are $49 to $99.
The casino offers pre-concert festivities including DJ showcases, personal DJ lessons and amateur comedy
performances as well as an after party.
On Sunday a rock double bill featuring Blondie and Melissa Etheridge will get under way at 8 p.m.
The New York punk band Blondie is marking its 40th anniversary. Its  hits include "In The
Flesh" and "Atomic."
Etheridge, a singer, songwriter and activist, has won two Grammys Awards as well as an Academy Award for
her song "I Need To Wake Up" from the documentary "Inconvenient Truth." Her hits
include "Come To My Window" and "I Want To Come Over".

Maumee Film Festival seeks filmmakers up for challenges
MAUMEE – Registration is now open for the Maumee Film Festival, which will be held Sept. 19 at Maumee
Indoor Theater.
Filmmakers may send a short film created within the past year for viewing in the Short Open Film
Challenge. Films should be no longer than eight-minutes in length.
The event is open to students in grades 7-12 as well as and college and adult filmmakers.
The deadline to register is July 26.
The festival will also include a 48-hour Film Challenge
During the challenge, which will take place July 31-Aug. 2, filmmakers can test their creativity and
ability to work under pressure. Filmmakers write, shoot, edit and upload a short film within a 48-hour
period.
The films will be screened in September at the festival.
Filmmakers may participate in both film challenges, Cash prizes will be awarded.
