Opera on Wheels presents original ‘Orpheus & Eurydice’
TOLEDO – Toledo Opera’s Opera on Wheels will present the one-act opera "Orpheus &
Eurydice" Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Ohio Theatre, 3112 Lagrange St.
With an English libretto by Jennifer Cresswell and music by Christoph Gluck and Jacques Offenbach, the
45-minute opera t ells of Orpheus and .Eurydice. On their wedding day the bride is bitten by a viper and
killed. Orpheus, with only his magic lyre as weapon and the Goddess of Love (Amor) as guide, descends
into Hades to retrieve her.
Tickets available at the door are $5 and $3 for children 12 and under. For information call (419)

Cast members are: Laura Reaper, Orpheus; Jennifer Braun, Eurydice; Madeline Harts, Amor; and LeTara Lee,
Greek Chorus. Spencer Miller will accompany on the piano.
Jazz septet to perform music of Jimmy Cook in bistro show
TOLEDO – Toledo Jazz Orchestra Septet will close out its Black & White Sedan Bistro Series with
the "Music of the Jimmy Cook Septet" Sunday at 3 p.m. at The Toledo Club, 235 14th St. The
show will be preceded at 2:30 p.m. by a set in the Red Room performed by the Toledo Jazz Orchestra Youth
Big Band.
The Septet will play music from the West Coast Cool Jazz era.
Cook, who passed away in 2008, was one of the founding members of the Toledo Jazz Orchestra and a
mainstay on the Toledo jazz scene.
The septet will perform selections such as "The Nearness of You," "It’s a Blue
World," "Love for Sale," "Girl Talk," "Bernie’s Tune," "Georgia
On My Mind," "Adios" and "Robbin’s Nest."
The Toledo Jazz Orchestra Septet, led by Ron Kischuk, trombone, features Kevin Eikum, bass, Mark Berger
,saxophone, Mark Lemle, saxophone, Scott Potter, trumpet, Jeff Trudell, drums, and Tad Weed, piano.
Ramona Collins will sing .
The Toledo Jazz Orchestra Youth Big Band will also play during intermission.
Tickets  are $30 for Toledo Club members and $35 for non-members by calling (419) 242-2787. All tickets
include heavy hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar is available.
LeSo Gallery to feature work of Phelps and Valentine
TOLEDO – LeSo Gallery, 1527 Starr Ave., presents Momentary, a two-artist exhibition featuring the works
of Crystal Gale Phelps and Amber Valentine.
An opening reception will be held May 21 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Valentine’s work is a series of quadruple exposures created through traditional use of film and darkroom
techniques. Her work fuses incidental imagery into a singular complex and saturate image, often with
infinite depth.
Phelps’ work explores the depths of her own experience and the greater dialogue of death through life,
memory, and reclamation. Through use of blood, ink, dirt, and thread, Phelps expresses herself in line
and gesture on the paper.
An artist talk will be held June 5 from 7 to 9 p.m.
A closing reception will be held  June 18 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Jazz meets Middle East music in Glass Salon show
TOLEDO – A concert that mixes jazz and the music of the Middle East will presented May 21 at 6:30 p.m. in
the Toledo Museum of Art’s Glass Pavilion.
The show will feature Guy Mintus, piano, and Yinon Muallem, oud, percussion and vocals. percussionist and
vocalist.
Tickets are $35, $25 for Art Tatum Jazz Society members and $10 for students.
Toledo Rep seeks variety of designers for next season
TOLEDO –  The Toledo Repertoire Theatre seeks designers for its upcoming season.
The Rep needs set designers, lighting designers, sound designers, costume designers, and stage managers
for five main stage productions, three special events, and two Edgy Rep readings. A stipend or
compensation is available for many of these positions.
