Betty May Corby, age 95, passed away on 10/29/24.
She was born on April 12, 1929, in Hocking County, Ohio to Stanton and Luretta Palmer. Betty lived most of her life in Hocking County, and Logan, Ohio, but has resided in Bowling Green, Ohio since 2018. She married John M. Corby on February 7, 1953, and he preceded her in death in 2018, after 65 years of marriage.
Betty was known for her great cooking and baking-winning blue ribbons at the Hocking County Fair. She was an expert gardener and could encourage any sickly plant back to life with her ‘green thumb.’ She volunteered at Hocking Valley Community Hospital for over two decades and received a commendation from the Ohio House of Representatives for her volunteerism as one of ‘Ohio’s finest citizens’ for the hours she spent there.
She had a witty sense of humor which delighted many people who knew her-especially her grandchildren. She was a seamstress in her younger years and was an expert weaver using her loom. Both of her children referred to her as the ‘best mom anyone could ever have.’
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, son John G. Corby, and two siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Tom) Holloway of Bowling Green, Ohio; gran-daughter, Amanda Holloway-Verrill (Doug Verrill) of Ann Arbor, Mi; grandson, Joshua Holloway of Pittsburgh, PA; and great-grandchildren, Sophia Rose and Thomas Stanley Verrill of Ann Arbor, MI; sister, Sarolin Griggs of Logan, Ohio; sister-in-law, Janice Palmer, of Lancaster, Ohio; and nieces and nephews who kept in touch with her over the years.
There will be no visitation and burial will be private.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the kind Wheeled Meals drivers from the BG Senior Center and the compassionate and caring staff at the Willows at Bowling Green Assisted Living.
