To the editor:
The 2024 election is upon us and I must urge everyone to vote as if your country’s fate depends upon it. Over time it has become clear to me that there are Trump/MAGA Republicans and then there are ordinary Republicans. The two are NOT the same.
Trump, in his own words, has confessed that he will become a dictator on Day 1 of his presidency if elected. He will then use the powers of his position to rain hellfire and brimstone upon any one who opposes him—including ordinary Republicans. He will be like Hitler and the MAGAs like the Nazis. Trump lies all of the time, and when he is not lying, he is spinning, and when he is not spinning, he is making things up and/or exaggerating. And when this does not work, he pivots to some other unrelated topic.
The problem is not only Trump/MAGAs, the problem is that ordinary Republicans believe his lies, etc. Trump/MAGAs are playing with your brains—why are ordinary Republicans letting them do it? Is it so easy to go with the flow? Why not do the hard thing and think about what you are doing when you vote Trump/MAGAs—and then vote for Harris/Walz. (I am an Independent so I have no horse in this race.)
If you are a woman, Trump/MAGAs will try their best to keep you barefoot and pregnant by denying you birth control pills, morning after pills, and abortions (pills or surgery). And don’t forget those women who will die because they could not have surgery for a tubal pregnancy or a D&C for a miscarriage (which then get infected). And if not you, then how about your daughters or granddaughters?
If you skin is other than pale white, remember that Trump/MAGAs are supported by white supremists, Neo-Nazis, and the KKK—all of whom will be expecting a return on their time and efforts. And that will not be good for you or your families.
If you are an immigrant, remember that Trump once said that “Unless we get a hold of immigration, we will never win another election.” You don’t have to read tea leaves to know what that means for you.
Stand up to Trump/MAGAs. You won’t get a second chance.
