A local manufacturing plant has donated items to those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Southeastern Container, located at 307 Industrial Parkway, donated items to those in need at their corporate office and sister manufacturing plant in Asheville, North Carolina. The donated items were shipped out on Friday.

The recent hurricane has left a trail of destruction across the western North Carolina communities, with many people losing their homes and belongings.

“We were contacted from our corporate office, asking for help when the hurricane hit. We partnered with all the local businesses and sent out a request,” said Karen Gambrell, administrative clerk. “The Fringe stepped up and collected items for over two weeks. One of our employees went out Wednesday and picked up what we thought was going to be a box of items, which ended up being a pickup truck load full of donations. The local businesses CMC group also donated a truck load of items. We have quite the collection that’s going down to our corporate office.”

Staff members at Southeastern Container spent time properly sorting the truckloads of donations, organizing them into several different boxes.

“The process was smooth. There was a lot of stuff we had to sort through,” said Patty Wells, Ohio stockroom coordinator. “We sorted blankets, clothes, personal hygiene items, pet supplies, and more. It was a time-consuming process, but it is all for a good cause.”
