Portage Lions Club holds membership drive

PORTAGE — When caring people join together, roll up their sleeves and take action to make their community better, it’s a beautiful thing — and an incredible feeling for everyone involved. That’s lions. Being a Lion is leading be example, building relationships and improving the world through kindness. It’s 1.4 million caring men and women serving together so they can make a lasting impact and change mire lives.

The Portage Lions Club is looking for men and women to serve the surrounding area, state, national, and international humanitarian needs. Interested persons should contact any Lion or call 419-806-2549.

Civil War Roundtable meets Sunday

The Johnsons Island Civil War Roundtable will meet Sunday at 4 p.m. at Trinity UCC, 131 E. Perry St., Tiffin.

Ohio’s participation in the American Civil War will be presented by Deb Wickerham of the Hancock County Museum. The Power Point program will highlight residents of Hancock County including various Andrew Raiders that are buried in the county. Also, Hancock County recruited regiments will be discussed.

Jacob Parrott, stalwart member of the Great Locomotive Chase, lived in Kenton and was the nation’s first Medal of Honor Recipient. A book by Charles Jacobs was written about Parrott.

The program is free and open to the public.
