BG community warned of candy-selling scam

Bowling Green police were dispatched to the 1500 block of Gleneagles Drive Monday for a report of a scam.

When officers arrived around 4:33 p.m., they spoke to the complainant who advised that they work with Upward Sports. The complainant stated that they were alerted by a community member that there is an unidentified male claiming to sell candy on behalf of Upward Sports, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

The complainant stated that the male has attempted to sell candy on more than one occasion in the city but is unsure of how many sales he may or may not have completed. The complaint stated that the BG Chamber of Commerce was already aware of the fraudulent sales and that they have distributed a letter to area business to warn them of the scam, according to the report.

The letter from the chamber, which includes a warning about people claiming to sell candy on behalf of BG Church of the Nazarene, has been posted on the police division’s Facebook page.
