The Bowling Green Parks Board heard about a number of items during a brief meeting Wednesday.

Operations Coordinator Mike Przysiecki told the board that the construction phase of renovations at the Children’s Garden at the Simpson Garden complex is finishing up. He noted that a new pond has been installed, and the new garden shed construction is nearing completion. Some trees were also taken down and are being replaced, he said.

“People are really excited to see the progression,” said Przysiecki.

Parks and Recreation Director Kristen Otley noted that there is a new seating configuration for the board and its audience in the Simpson Garden Building meeting room to help with acoustics in the room. She also pointed out that acoustic panels, with decorative designs, have been installed to help.

“I’m noticing a difference already,” she said, noting that more of the panels are to be installed in the room.

She said that in recent years, when accordion-style dividers that had been a part of the room when the building was a church were removed “that did kind of catch some sounds,” leading to acoustic issues.

She called the acoustic panels “an experiment.”

Otley also told the board that next year, the Parks and Recreation Department will be conducting its next community recreational needs study, which will lead into its master planning process. The current parks and recreation master plan runs through 2026.

Board member Ardy Gonyer also gave an update on the Parks and Recreation Foundation, noting that the foundation’s third annual BG Brewfest event will be held Nov. 8 at the Veterans Building in City Park, from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale through the BG Parks website.

“The past two years we have sold out,” Gonyer said. “It’s really just a great time and a great and needed fundraiser for the oundation.”
