Toledo man pleads guilty to sex-related offenses

A Toledo man who had previously been found guilty of a sexual-related offense will have to register as a sex offender for 25 years.

William Thieman, 33, appeared Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

Thieman pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor as well as failure to register for a 2013 offense.

He was indicted in March for those two charges, which are third-degree felonies.

A rape charge will be dismissed at sentencing.

Wood County Assistant Prosecutor Brian Boos said his office has discussed the agreement with the victim and the victim’s family and they support this resolution.

On May 29 and May 30, 2023, he engaged in sexual conduct with a girl who was 14 at the time of the offenses.

From May-June 2023, he failed to register a change of address as required after being sentenced for gross sexual imposition in 2013 in Lucas County.

He is currently a Tier I sex offender, which requires him to register every 12 months over a period of 15 years. That penalty terminates in 2027.

His guilty pleas for the unlawful sexual conduct charges will require him to register as a Tier II sex offender, which requires in-person verification every 180 months for 25 years.

Reger said the minimum sentence for the unlawful sexual conduct is 12 months with the maximum of 60 months.

The failure to register charge has a potential prison sentence of six-18 months.

Boos recommended the sentences be served consecutively, for a maximum of 60 months.

Reger said prison is not presumed for the offenses.

Sentencing was scheduled for Nov. 19.
