Lake Twp. seeks grant to enhance its parks

MILLBURY — The Lake Township Board of Trustees will apply for local park improvement grants to enhance its playgrounds.

Trustees met Oct. 1.

The program will allow multiple upgrades to both Friendship Park and Fireside Park, including:

• Swing set for Fireside Park

• Seesaw for Friendship Park

• Eight picnic tables to replace existing tables for Friendship Park

“We put in some playground equipment for here and Fireside Park. If you’ve been to Fireside, it hasn’t been touched much since it was built. I recently had a conversation about trying to get the water and sewer lines put in at Fireside so that we can have bathrooms, which will cost a ton of money,” said Chairwoman Melanie Bowen-Greenwald. “Some of the tiles are broken. Fireside is strictly soccer fields now, so we may have to fix all the tiling. We are trying to look at some of these items.”

Friendship Park is on Moline-Martin Road next to the township’s administration building while Fireside Park is on Ayers Road north of Millbury.

Trustees approved donating $1,500 to Wreaths Across America, a veteran oriented organization that honors America’s veterans by placing wreaths on their graves during the holiday season. The township’s donation will be for wreaths at Lake Township Cemetery.

“Wreaths Across America is a wonderful program. The VFW does the car show the weekend of Memorial Day. We were able to raise enough money cover all 2,400 of those graves, which is the first year we have been able to do so,” Bowen-Greenwald said. “Hopefully, people can pick up slips to make sure that we can continue to cover all the graves.”

The next meeting will be Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the Administrative Hall.
