BGSU names ice arena mezzanine after local families

Bowling Green State University has named the mezzanine in its newly-renovated Slater Family Ice Arena after local families.

The university’s board of trustees approved the naming of the Green, Remeis and Green Mezzanine at its Sept. 27 meeting.

As owners of A.A. Green Realty Inc. and Allen A. Green Builder & Developer Inc., Allen and Mary Green are longtime supporters of BGSU and active members of the learning community.

Alumni and Falcon Flames Mark (1991) and Michelle (1992) Remeis earned degrees from BGSU in economics and fashion merchandising, respectively. Mark Remeis serves as a partner and broker for A.A. Green Realty Inc., serving on several professional industry boards and creating real estate courses at the university. Michelle Remeis is co-owner of Mecca Management, Inc., partner in GREM Family Investors and previously served on the BGSU Alumni Board.

Steven Green (1990) graduated from BGSU with a bachelor’s degree in communications and currently serves as a developer and real estate consultant. He also works as a broker for A.A. Green Realty, Inc. and is co-owner of Mecca Management, Inc. He has previously held multiple board-level roles for the University. Michelle “Misty” Green holds business and law degrees from BGSU and is a sole practitioner in Bowling Green focused on real estate, landlord-tenant relations, development and land use. Over the years, the couple has supported multiple programs at the university.

During their first meeting of the 2024-2025 academic year, trustees acknowledged the university’s record-breaking first-year enrollment and retention success, deepened their support for innovative learning spaces and accepted transformative gifts for education in the arts and fan experience in the Slater Family Ice Arena.

“It takes a team to move this institution forward. There is a cohesive bond between faculty and administration. When you have that, good things happen,” said Drew Forhan, board of trustees chair. “I think that’s what you’re seeing at Bowling Green. I’m proud to be an alumnus of this university. We have lots of good momentum and I think you will see that continue.”

Trustees gave final approvals for the new Technology Engineering Innovation Center. The building is set for completion in spring 2026.

“The need for engineering degrees is growing. We recognize that as an institution and want to invest more in this area,” Forhan said. “The board believes that this is important. If we can improve those programs, we can attract more students.”

The board accepted $5 million gift from an anonymous donor for the School of Art. Among the largest donations in BGSU’s history benefiting the arts, the funding will establish the RING Center for Experimental Learning in Art and Design, expanding opportunities for students to enhance their knowledge and skills through study abroad, internships, professional development and experimental learning opportunities.

The board appointed Sarah Emery as full professor with tenure in the BGSU Department of Biological Sciences where she will also serve as director of the Center for Great Lakes and Watershed Studies.
