Man arrested for OVI after driving with no headlights

Bowling Green police were on patrol Sunday when they observed a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling eastbound on East Wooster Street near South Enterprise Street without its headlights on.

Around 3:10 a.m., officers initiated a traffic stop. The operator, identified as Collin Bils, 19, Nevada, Ohio, pulled into the 400 block of East Wooster Street, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

Bils ran over the curb before pulling into the parking lot. The vehicle went past the parking spot and into the gravel near the railroad tracks. Bils then reversed the vehicle to be in the parking spot, according to the report.

Bils appeared confused when officers informed him that his headlights were not on. He had bloodshot, glassy eyes and blurred speech, according to the report.

Bils attempted to hand officers his driver’s license with a fake license underneath it. When officers attempted to grab both licenses, Bils took the fake license and put it in his pocket and stated that he did not have a fake license, according to the report.

Bils would not cooperate with officers and was pulled out of the vehicle, which had four 12-ounce open cans of alcohol in the side door, according to the report.

Officers identified Zachary Sheaffer, 21, Harpster, as the passenger of the vehicle. Evan Hill, 19, Upper Sandusky, was in the back seat, according to the report.

There was an open case of alcohol in the back seat of the vehicle, with three sealed cans left in it. Sheaffer and Hill advised that the alcohol belonged to Bils, according to the report.

Bils was uncooperative with officers and would not answer any questions or submit to field sobriety tests.

He was arrested for OVI, driver’s license misrepresentation, lighted lights on motor vehicles, driving in marked lanes, obstructing official business, open container in moving vehicle, and underage possession of alcohol.

Hill was cited for driver’s license misrepresentation and Sheaffer was cited for open container.
