Bowling Green police were dispatched Wednesday to the 800 block of Sixth Street for a report of a female crying in the street. When officers arrived around 10:19 p.m., they spoke with the male and female involved with the incident.

The female was visiting her boyfriend, Jose Zamudio, 27, Winder, Georgia. She told police that Zamudio had been drinking. Officers smelled a strong alcoholic odor coming from his breath, according to the report.

The female stated that Zamudio was aggressive with her when she tried to call her family and explained that after a back-and-forth match of trying to get her phone back, Zamudio strangled her with his bare hands, according to the report.

The female told officers she was unable to breathe but did not pass out. She said she scratched at Zamudio to get him off her, according to the report.

The female stated that her neck did not currently hurt and had no difficulty swallowing. The female had a scratch on her left bicep, a small bruise on her right index finger knuckle, and a red mark to her left anterior thigh. Zamudio had scratches on both sides of his neck and denied needing EMS while on scene, according to the report.

A witnessed stated he saw the female and Zamudio “fighting” outside for 10 minutes. The witness stated he saw Zamudio try to push the female and thought she was going to get knocked down, according to the report.

Zamudio was arrested for domestic violence and strangulation, and was taken to jail.
