Bowling Green police were dispatched Tuesday to the 700 block of East Clough Street for a report of a firearm being discharged by the upstairs neighbor. The caller told police that she believes a round had gone through her ceiling, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

When officers arrived around 12:28 a.m., they spoke with the caller and observed the hole in her ceiling. The hole was in close proximity to the caller’s bed where she was lying, according to the report.

Officers then observed the fragment from the discharged round laying on the caller’s floor near the bed.

Officers then spoke to three individuals in the neighboring apartment, who all stated they had been drinking that night.

Kaden Smith, 20, Toledo, reportedly fired his handgun through the air mattress.

When officers asked Smith how much he had to drink, he wanted to speak to a lawyer. Smith had a strong alcoholic odor coming from his person, according to the report.

During a search of the apartment, officers found a drum magazine and a regular 9mm magazine in the kitchen trashcan and a Glock 19 9mm in the bottom right drawer of the refrigerator.

Officers located the small hole that lined up with the one in the lower apartment.

When the residents first heard the gunshot, Smith told them that the air mattress popped. He also instructed the residents to tell police that he set off fireworks instead, according to the report.

Smith was arrested for having weapons while intoxicated, discharging firearms in city limits and tampering with evidence. He was taken to jail.
