Trump has forfeited his right to be our president

To the editor,

This nation is founded on the belief that the supreme principles and rule of government are found in one document : The United States Constitution. All who are in government swear an Oath to protect, preserve, and defend the Constitution. Everyone in the military swears a sacred Oath to the mission to protect, preserve, and defend this organizational defining document.

NOT an Oath to an individual, a political party, ideology, religion, etc. To Our U.S. Constitution.

Any individual in order to qualify for the privilege of being a candidate for the Office of President needs to meet conditions stated within our Constitution. The candidate must be at least 35 years old, a citizen of the United States. However, most importantly Article 2 Section 1 states that …..

“Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:– I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Even though Donald Trump has not been convicted yet, he has in my opinion, demonstrated and forfeited his right to be our President.

Donald Trump orchestrated an effort to lie about the results of the 2020 election to remain in office; supported individuals falsely identifying themselves as state electors for Trump; tried unsuccessfully to provide evidence of election impropriety bringing multiple lawsuits challenging election results; personally intimidated election officials; unsuccessfully tried to get Vice-President Pence to interfere in the electoral certification process.

Failing in that he then on January 6 sent an armed mob to the Capitol, told to “fight like hell” during the electoral certification process; to stop the peaceful transfer of power. With the mob shouting to “hang Mike Pence,” for his loyalty to the Constitutional political process, during the transfer of power certifying Biden as President Elect.

During hours, with Trump watching on TV while his “peaceful patriots” mob attacked the Capitol Police; violently breaking into the Capitol and disrupting the Constitutional process; causing members of Congress to go into hiding in fear for their lives and asking for outside help never sent. President Trump did not call out the National Guard, the military or intercede to protect and preserve the peaceful Constitutional transfer of power.

Late in the day President Donald Trump finally released a chilling, pre-taped video telling his mob of supporters attacking the U.S. Capitol, “Go home. We love you, you’re very special.”

Donald Trump has therefore forfeited his right to be our President. He failed to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Please vote November 5 as though our democracy depends on it, because it does.
