Despite scoring first, BG falls to AW, 49-19

Bowling Green scored first, but Anthony Wayne stayed a perfect 3-0 on the season, defeating BG, 49-19, in a non-league game at Bobcat Stadium Friday.

BG running back Ja’ceous Shannon opened the scoring on a five-yard touchdown run, putting the Bobcats ahead, 7-0, with 5:47 left in the first quarter.

However, Grant Kinnee scored on a five-yard run just over three minutes later, tying the game at 7-7.

In the second quarter, Crue Carroll scored on a five-yard run, and after Will Horn’s conversion kick, the Generals led 14-7 at halftime in the crossover game between Northern Lakes League Buckeye and Cardinal division teams.

AW scored four times in the third quarter to pull away, starting with Kyle Wymer’s 28-yard interception return and followed by Braden Gardner’s four-yard TD run, Cameron Miller’s 15-yard fumble recovery and TD, and a 13-yard TD run by Kinnee.

For BG, Jackson Shafer scored on a 13-yard run and Antwon Lawrence scored on a 76-yard run in the fourth quarter. AW got a two-yard TD run by Carroll in the fourth.

Lawrence led BG with 76 yards rushing on two carries, Shannon had 68 yards on 12 carries, Shafer had 49 yards on 12 carries, Jamison Horst had 14 yards on six carries, Brogan Pasley had nine yards on three carries, and Grany Gillespie had a carry for five yards.

Horst completed 4-of-7 passes for 21 yards, including a 12-yard completion to Kayden Torres. Shannon had two catches for eight yards and Shafer had two catches for four yards.

BG finished with nine first downs and 46 offensive plays for 245 yards, averaging 5.3 yards per play. The Bobcats fall to 1-2 and travel to Springfield (1-2) next Friday.
