Bowling Green State University President Rodney Rogers and BGSU Advocate Dr. Sandra Earle hosted a special brunch at the University House celebrating the 100th anniversary of the University Women of BGSU on Aug. 17. The brunch was open to all members of University Women of BGSU and prospective members.
The brunch was the kick-off of the 2024-2025 year for the University Women whose formal objectives are to encourage a friendly and cooperative spirit within its diversified membership and to foster a continuing interest in Bowling Green State University and its surrounding communities.
Additionally, the group strives to encourage and assist part-time or full-time, non-traditional undergraduate women through our scholarship funding. Four female students were presented with 2024-2025 scholarships for $2,000 and one $1,000 scholarship.
The $2. 000 winners were:
Bethany Longer is a junior who lives in Berlin Heights. She is majoring in communication.
Shelby Noveske is a senior who lives in Perrysburg. She is majoring in dietetics.
Danielle Rapp is a senior who lives in Sandusky. She is majoring in inclusive early childhood education.
Chasity Page is a junior who lives in Sandusky. Her major is technical and applied studies.
The $1,000 winner was Angelina Sorge, who is a senior who lives in Wauseon. She is majoring intheatre: acting/directing. She will be graduating in December, so received a reduced scholarship of $1,000.
University Women of BGSU provides social fellowship and fun for its members, primarily through various small interest groups. These groups usually meet monthly during the academic year. The entire group meets as well for planned social events throughout the year, at which time spouses and friends who may want to join are encouraged to attend.
The special interest groups include Afternoon Bridge, Antiques and Collectibles, Docent-led tours at the Toledo Museum of Art, Movie Groups, BGSU Arts Group, Book Groups, Community Service, Craft Group, Morning Blooms Gardening Group, Knitting/Crocheting (Knitwits), Lunch Bunch, Movie Discussion Groups, Social Group (Expresso Yourself), TOOTs (The Out of Tuners), Travelers Group, and Thinkers-a Discussion Group. There truly is something for everyone.
