Grand Parade turns 79 this year: Pembeville Free Fair comes to an end

PEMBERVILLE — Chairs lining the streets of Pemberville all night means one thing for the town and that is the Grand Parade is here.

Saturday was the last day for the Pemberville Free Fair, and the day that classic cars, high school bands, politicians, farm equipment, twirlers and dance groups all showed up to show off their talents for the crowds.

The Eastwood High School Marching Band, led by Brian Meyers, was followed by the 2024 Senior King and Queen Bob and Elaine Frobose, who have been married 50 years.

The 2024 Outstanding Citizen this year was awarded to two individuals, the first time in fair history. The winners were Roberta Reiter and Patricia Louise Rollins.

Throughout the parade, bands large and small, played a great cadence. There was bands from Eastwood, Anthony Wayne, Springfield, Otsego, Gibsonburg, and Holgate.

The Shriners showed up with their classic cars and mini bikes, all while driving with precision and showmanship that is always a great show. This year Howard Shirling brough to the grand parade his clown division fire truck. Shirling built this at his home in Pemberville and showcased it for the first time this year.

The Eastwood Schools cheerleading squad showed off stunting for the first time. They squad has 22 girls in junior varsity and varsity with new head coach Stephanie Welling.

The float riders didn’t disappoint at tossing out an abundance of candy to those watching. It was observed half a gallon to a gallon of candy was picked up.
