PEMBERVILLE — Kids from the community had the opportunity to put their cow milking skills to the test on Thursday at the Pemberville Free Fair.

The fair brought back the cow milking competition this year after being gone for a few years. Kids who participated practiced their cow milking skills on life sized wood cows with rubber teats for milking.

“We felt like it would be exciting to bring the event back after a few years. We have kids this year that are participating in this event for the first time,” said Kelli Bohland, fair president. “It is fun watching the kids enjoy themselves, which is the coolest thing. It is great having free events that kids and their families can enjoy.”

Contestants had one minute to milk as much milk as they could. Each contestant within his/her age division was judged on the amount milked be weight. Contestants ages 3-4 went first followed by those ages 5-6, 7-8, and 9-10.

“I enjoyed milking the cows,” said 4-year0old Violet Bohland, winner is the 3-4 division winner. “It was easy once I got started.”

Large crowds of people gathered to watch the event. Trivia and drawings for prizes took place throughout the event.

“My strategy for milking the cow was to just squeeze and pull. I got bronze,” said Logan Darr, 6, who earned a bronze medal.
