Indian cuisine offered in BG

A new Indian restaurant has opened in Bowling Green.

The Curry Lounge serves Indian cuisine and has a fully stocked bar. Owners Manny and Sanjay Patel opened the restaurant on Friday behind Dairy Queen, their other business.

“I got the idea from my daughter’s birthday. We invited friends from the community and they gave the idea of opening a restaurant,” said Manny Patel. “For us, we had to drive to Cleveland and Michigan for Indian food. There were no sit-down Indian restaurants in our area.”

“We wanted to bring Indian cuisine to the area,” said Sanjay Patel. “I have a friend who opened a restaurant in Michigan, which also inspired me to help open the restaurant.”

The lounge will feature meal options for vegans, vegetarians, gluten free, and non-vegetarians. The restaurant features a special tandoor oven, which according to owner Manny Patel, retains the moisture and flavor like chicken far better than a conventional grill or oven.

“The food is different in Indian culture,” Manny Patel said. “I am a Hindu, so I do not eat egg or meat.”

Starting this week, the lounge’s full menu of Indian flavors will be available, giving people the option to choose their preferred spice levels (mild, medium, hot, extreme hot) along with their weekend buffets.

“Usually, we would move cities every two-three years, but we enjoy it here in Bowling Green,” Manny Patel said. “I would like to thank the community for being very supportive.”

The restaurant will celebrate its new location at 434 E. Wooster St. with a ribbon cutting Thursday at 11 a.m.

The event is open to the public with registration requested at bgchamber.net/rsvp.
