NORTH BALTIMORE — The North Baltimore Garden Club is celebrating their 90th birthday with food trucks, cars and more.

On Sunday, the garden club will be hosting a celebration on Main Street. The celebration will have food trucks, guest speakers, kids’ activities, a car cruise in and more.

The food trucks will be opening at 11 a.m. and all other activities will begin at noon. The North Baltimore Historical Society will also be open during the celebration and will be offering tours.

While the celebration’s main focus is the garden club’s birthday, the goal is to also bring more people into town. Lindsay Ziegler, a club member and organizer, said North Baltimore is a good place for families to come and make memories and learn a little more about the community.

“We want to get people into our community,” Ziegler said. “We have a lot of great history in North Baltimore and we really want to get that out in the open and let people know about it.”

For 90 years, the garden club has been an important part of North Baltimore’s community for many people. The club meets once a month and Ziegler said meetings typically include a quick business discussion and then some kind of craft or garden program.

The club doesn’t have a specific meeting place but will often meet at someone’s house or some other destination in North Baltimore.

“It’s a very laid-back club, and we usually go to someone’s house or a destination if their house isn’t accessible to everybody, like we’ve met at our historical society, the libraries and churches or other places with gardens, many different places,” Ziegler said.

Outside of meetings, the garden club also does a variety of work within the community.

“We plant a couple town flower beds then do the upkeep on, and we actually have gone out to some people’s houses, like elderly folks that can’t do their yard work anymore, pull some weeds and just stuff like that,” Ziegler said.

Club members can be any age. Ziegler said they have a mix of generations in the club, with some of their youngest being in their 20s and their oldest being 93.

No matter the age, Ziegler said each member is important in their own way and can teach something new to the group.

“I think it’s really good because I think each age brings something different to the table,” Ziegler said. “The older ones are really pretty knowledgeable and then there’s younger ones who are very knowledgeable when it comes to technology and other things like that.”

The garden club has a Facebook page where more information is available about the club’s various activities. The club is always accepting new members and can be reached at [email protected].
