Fair concert had audience dancing, singing

The Roots and Boots tour brought 90s country music back to the Wood County Fair on Thursday.

The tour consists of three country music stars from the 90s, Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin and Collin Raye. The trio have played together for many years and play a mix of their most popular songs.

The show started with the trio playing together for a few songs before they split and each performed a few songs on their own. Kershaw kicked off the individual performances with songs such as “She Don’t Know She’s Beautiful.”

Tippin followed and played some of his well-known songs such as “Kiss This” and “There Ain’t Nothing Wrong With the Radio.” Raye closed the individual performances with his songs “My Kind of Girl,” “Love, Me” and more.

The trio finished off the show by performing a few more songs together and then performing an encore song after the show appeared to be over.

The crowds sang and danced throughout the concert.

Matt Morgart said he bought tickets for a bunch of his family and loved getting to listen to music he enjoyed with the people he loves.

Morgart’s parents passed about a year ago and he said because of that, being able to spend moments like this with people he cared about was super important to him.

“It’s the most important thing in the world, family and kids,” Morgart said.

Being able to bring families together is something that the fair board thinks about when deciding which performers to bring to the fair each year. Paul Perry, the second vice president of the fair board, said the process of finding performers for the concert takes about a year and there’s a lot of things they look for when deciding.

“We bring, try to bring some good name bands in here to provide some good cheap entertainment, essentially, to the folks of the county and the surrounding area to be able to enjoy and just have a night of relaxation and fun,” Perry said.

The Roots and Boots tour has been going for many years, but when they first started Kershaw said they were told the tour likely wouldn’t last for more than a few months. Despite the doubt, the tour has continued, and the trio said they continue to love what they do.

The energy of the performers was reflected throughout the crowd and Perry said he thought the trio did a fantastic job.

“It was energetic. The crowds were on their feet, they were dancing, they were singing,” Perry said. “Everything was a good time.”

Fair goers will have the opportunity to see another concert tonight as Emily Ann Roberts will be performing a free concert in the grove starting at 8 p.m.
