Wednesday at Woodlands goes country

PERRYSBURG — The Wednesday at Woodlands lunchtime concert series continues Wednesday from noon-1 p.m. with a performance by Locoweed.

These lunchtime concerts are held in the Woodlands Park shelter area, located at 429 E. Boundary St. Bring a chair or enjoy your lunch at one of the many picnic tables available. A food truck will be nearby for those that choose to buy lunch.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary last year in 2023, Locoweed is hailed as the catalyst that launched the country rock movement in Northwest Ohio. Emerging in 1973, the band defied genre conventions when country and rock music seemed like opposites. With their distinct sound and genre-defying music, Locoweed carved out a unique niche, embracing the notion of being “too country to be rock and roll, and too rock and roll to be country.” This unique appeal led them to national tours, with bookings across the US and even reaching Alaska.

Over the past 50 years band members have come and gone, but the current lineup has remained the same since 1978. The band’s current members include Dave Athanas on lead guitar, Mike Malone on vocals and rhythm guitar, Dave Cubbedge on vocals, pedal steel, and guitar, Randy Monk on vocals and bass guitar, and Rick Gerbeck on drums and percussion.

Fifty years of innovation, passion, and musicianship have shaped Locoweed’s remarkable journey in the world of country rock, now known as Southern Rock.

This concert series is made possible with the support of the City of Perrysburg and the Norma (Swaisgood) Stark Memory Garden and Labyrinth.
