A Perrysburg man will have to register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to attempted unlawful sexual contact with a minor.

Max Joseph Stewart, 23, appeared Tuesday in the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

He entered pleas of guilty to the amended charge of attempted unlawful contact with a minor and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, both fifth-degree felonies.

Reger said the maximum prison sentence was 12 months for each charge, but prison was neither mandatory nor presumed.

Stewart had been indicted in September for two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, both fourth-degree felonies; pandering obscenity involving a minor or impaired person, a fourth-degree felony; and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a fifth-degree felony.

On July 4, 2022, he attempted to engage in sexual conduct with another person who was 15 years old.

From July 1-31, 2022, he sold or provided a 15-year-old, or a law enforcement officer posing as a juvenile, material that was obscene.

Stewart must register as a Tier I sex offender, which will require annual in-person verification for 15 years.

Sentencing was scheduled for Sept. 24, at which time the remaining charges will be dismissed.
